New fisherman (Apprentice Fisherman)

Important Information

  • Make sure you have all your personal information such as your address, phone and cell phone numbers, email address, etc.

  • From your portal, you will be able to pay for your booklet at the amount of $50 for an apprentice fisherman.

Why register for BAPAP?

By registering for the BAPAP, you are getting your professional commercial fishing skills recognized. As of 2019, you are required by law to carry your properly renewed fisherman’s logbook for the current season on a fishing trip.

In addition, if you are the captain of the fishing vessel, you must ensure that all persons on board also have their fisherman’s logbook.

Apprentice Fisherman Registration

Beginning December 1, 2023, there will be 2 ways to register as an Apprentice Fisherman: online and by paper.

Register Online

You will then receive an email from BAPAP within 48 hours to complete your file on the online fisherman portal. You will have to create a password (8 characters including at least one capital letter, one special character and one number). It is important to keep your password, as it will be used for future years.

Once you have logged on to the online portal, you will be able to pay the $50 registration fee in the “My renewals” section by clicking on “Renew” in order to complete the form.

Once paid, your certification as an apprentice fisherman will be pending approval from BAPAP.

You will then have to add your photo in the “General Information” section or in the “My Booklet” section. This is mandatory to receive BAPAP approval.

Once approved, you will be able to take a screenshot of your online portal in the “Fisherman Information” section on your cell phone and this proof will allow you to go fishing at sea.
