Important Information

  • The renewal date for your fishing permit for the 2024 season will be possible as early as December 1, 2023;

  • The accreditation fee will be $50 for 2024;

  • The renewal of your booklet must be done before January 2, 2024, after which a $25 administrative fee will be added;

Why register for BAPAP?

By registering for the BAPAP, you will have your professional commercial fishing skills recognized. As of 2019, you are required by law to carry your duly renewed fisherman’s logbook for the current season on a fishing trip.

In addition, if you are the captain of the fishing vessel, you must ensure that all persons on board also have their fisherman’s logbook.

Important information about the renewal

Your fisherman portal must have your photo where your face is clearly visible. This can be added to your online portal. If you are filling out your paper renewal, please submit your photo when you mail it in.

You are a licensed fisherman and want to pay for your crew! Follow the steps below:

● Once connected to your Online Portal : in the “My Renewals” section in the first question: The system has not detected any sea time data for this season. Did you fish during the last season? You need to check yes and this will take you to enter your sea time below your name. You have the + sign to add your crew members one at a time.

● In the third section “Crews” you must check the box for the crew members you wish to pay the renewal for. When paying online you will pay for the selected people.

  • You have participated́ full-time in a commercial fishing season within three years prior to applying for the certificate and have completed 630 hours of training including the following courses:
    • Block 1 Safety 250h
    • Block 2 Piloting 160h
    • Block 3 Rowing 220h
  •  You have participated full-time in two commercial fishing seasons in the three years preceding the application for a certificate and have completed a minimum of 335 hours of training including the following courses:
    • Block 1 Safety 155h
    • Block 2 Piloting 120h
    • Block 3 Rowing 60h
  • You have participated in 12 months of commercial fishing sea time recognized by Transport Canada prior to the application to hold at least a Fishing Vessel Master, Fourth Class (Class IV) certificate issued by the Minister of Transport Canada.
